CARLOS MARE

Carlos "Mare139" Rodriguez is an iconic figure of the New York graffiti who began his artistic career by painting on trains in 1976. As a member of the golden age of the graffiti metro (1975-1985), he painted alongside many masters of this generation: Kel, Dondi White, Crash, Kase2, Noc167 and many others.

In 1985 he became the pioneer of a new form of graffiti, extending his practice to sculpture, in three dimensions, which became his artistic signature. His sculptures are characterized by fluid and abstract forms that often resemble the movement and energy of graffiti letters.

In recent years, he has developed a project around breaking with his Bboy Abstractions series, which illustrates his exploration of breakdance, movement, light, space and abstract art, recognizing the importance of Bboying and its close relationship with graffiti.

Throughout her career as a sculptor, Mare has constantly brought innovation to the aesthetics and vocabulary of the genre.
